State College – Mansfield’s Chris Cummings placed 32nd overall for the men and the women’s team placed 26th Saturday at the Penn State National Cross Country Meet, which is dominated by Division I schools. The Mountaineer women were led by junior Rachel Hall, who finished 65th overall and posted a time of 22:33 in the 6K race. Six seconds later, senior Charity Learn finished the course to take 72nd place. Her younger sister, Tricia Learn, a freshman, was the third Mansfield runner across the line, finishing in 131st place with a time of 23:33. Mansfield also had finishes by freshman Clarissa Correll (153rd, 23:48), freshman Heather Wida (207th, 25:03), junior Robyn Ireland (212th, 25:15), and freshman Natasha Jones (223rd, 26:54). The Mountaineers, who had 628 points and posted an average time of 23:31, were edged out of 25th place by Division I Texas A&M by six points. Duke University won the meet, with runners placing first, second, third, sixth, tenth, 11th, and 16th. On the men’s side, Cummings, a junior, finished the 5.2 mile course in 26:07 to place 32nd as the Mansfield men earned a 34th place finish out of 37 teams. Cummings’ finish was good enough for third among Division II runners in a race that featured 26 Division I schools, including Penn State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, and Syracuse.The Mountaineers, who finished with 860 points, edged Robert Morris University by two points. Mansfield’s Bryan Morseman, a junior, finished in 26:50 to finish in 96th place overall. Mountaineers Jon Holtz, Matt Zimmerman, and Rich Correll finished 235th, 247th, and 250th respectively. Mansfield runners averaged 28:35. Eastern Michigan University won the men’s meet with 100 points.
