FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CHARITY WALKER EARNS PSAC TOP TEN AWARD FOR SCHOOL RECORD SECOND TIME

For anyone who thought Charity Learn, now Charity Walker, was finished with her outstanding collegiate cross country career, you would be mistaken. The senior standout has managed to grasp one more outstanding achievement to add to her plentiful list of accomplishments at Mansfield. She was honored for a school record second time as a member of the PSAC Fall Top Ten earlier this week.

Only ten athletes from the entire PSAC are selected to the list, regardless of sport or gender.

The Top Ten Awards, selected by the PSAC’s sports information directors, recognize student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom, as well as in the arena of competition. The conference designates Top Ten Award winners after each of the sports seasons: fall, winter and spring.

To be a candidate for the Top Ten Awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. Only student-athletes from the fall sports season are eligible for the Fall Top Ten Awards.

At the end of the academic year, the league announces the Scholar-Athlete Awards, which recognize student-athletes on all PSAC squads with 3.25 cumulative GPAs or better. Additionally, the PSAC names the top Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of Year.

Charity Walker exemplifies all the qualities considered in naming this elite list of student-athletes.

Walker maintains a 3.98 GPA in environmental biology.

She is a four-time All-PSAC honoree most recently finishing 12th at the PSAC Championships this fall. This past season, Learn finished first at the Mansfield Opener, Tidewater Invitational and SUNY Oneonta Invitational and also finished third at the Collegiate Track Conference Championships. A two-time NCAA qualifier and an NCAA All-American in 2004, Learn was the first runner in school history to earn All-PSAC honors in all four of her seasons at Mansfield. She has also earned All-PSAC in both indoor and outdoor track.
