FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD WOMEN PLACE FIVE RUNNERS IN TOP TEN TO TAKE CTC MEET, CUMMINGS TAKES FIRST IN MEN’S FOURTH PLACE FINISH

CENTER VALLEY -- Mansfield University women cross country runners placed in five of the top ten spots as the team won the College Track Conference (CTC) Championships at De Sales University. For the men, Mansfield’s Chris Cummings won the overall event as the team grabbed a tie with host De Sales for fourth place out of 13 teams.

The Mountaineer women finished the rainy afternoon with 28 total points, downing division I Hofstra, who had 41 points and Division I Sacred Heart, who finished third with 98 points. De Sales’ team finished fourth.

Mansfield’s Rachel Hall, a junior, led the Mountaineer women as she finished in second place with a time of 19:22 on the 5K course. Teammate Charity Learn, a senior, finished close behind as her time of 19:31 put her in third place.

The freshman made up Mansfield’s next three finishers. Tricia Learn took sixth place with a time of 19:59. Clarissa Correll was next across the line with a time of 20:13. Rounding out the top ten was Heather Wida, who posted a time of 20:28. Junior Robyn Ireland had a solid 24th place finish in 21:19.

On the men’s side, Cummings took first place by 13 seconds, finishing the 8K course in 26:40. His teammate Bryan Morseman was close behind as he took third place with a time of 26:59.

“Chris was awesome,” cross country head coach Mike Rohl said. “He had complete control of the race the whole time.”

Rohl was also pleased with his teams’ overall performances.

“Our goal going into the meet was to close our time and distance gap among the runners,” Rohl said. “This is where we want to be going into next week.”

Next week, the Mountaineers travel to Slippery Rock for the PSAC championship meet
