RELEASE DATE: 4/9/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CHARITY LEARN WINS 3000 METERS AT PSAC WEST CHALLENGE MEET, RELAY RECORDS FALL CLARION – Charity Learn shattered the school record in winning the 3000 meters at the PSAC West Challenge at Clarion University Saturday afternoon to lead the Mansfield University women’s track and field team to a fifth place finish in the seven team meet. The Mountaineer men also finished second behind two second place finishes by Chris Cummings. Learn literally ran away from the field in the 3000, finishing six seconds ahead of the second place runner and shattering her school record time set in 2003 by 19 seconds. The 4x400 relay team consisting of Amanda Fedish, Stephanie Cadwell, Katrina Brumfield and Marissa Lucero ran a school record time of 4:10.29. Previously, the record stood at 4:13.25 set in 2003. The same members of the 4x400 also ran a school record time in the 4x100, posting a time of 0:51.22. This time broke a 22 year old record of 0:52.3, set back in 1983. Nearly breaking school records were Megan Kerr, and Katrina Brumfield. Kerr tied the school record in the pole vault with a height of 9'6". This ties her mark set last outdoor season, along with Melissa Gore back in 2002. Brumfield jumped to a height of 5'3" in the high jump to just miss the school record of 5' 3.25" set in 1988 by Dawn Bernhard. Also earning team points for the women were freshman Amanda Fedish with a third place finish in the 100 meters (12.95) and sixth place in the 200 meters (26.90). Marissa Lucero was seventh in both the 100 meters (13.19) and 200 meters (27.03). Steph Cadwell was fourth in the 400 meters (1:00.43) while Nicole Dann was fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:11.52). Rachel Hall finished sixth in the 1500 meters (4:58.68). Katrina Brumfield took fifth in the high jump (5-03) while Megan Kerr was sixth in the pole vault with a school record 10.25. Cummings led the men with second place finishes in both the 800 meters (1:57.74) and 1500 meters (4:03.85). Keith Drummond was second in the 400 meters (50.95) while Richard Correll took fifth in the 5000 meters (16:22.26). Jeremy Confer was also fifth in the javelin (185-10). |
