FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE WOMEN HAVE RECORD DAY IN FINAL DAY OF PSAC TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP

MANSFIELD – Rachel Hall become just the second runner in Mansfield University women’s track history capture a PSAC title when she outran teammate Charity Learn to win the 3,000 steeplechase in the final day of the PSAC Track and Field Championship at Robert T. Maxson Track Saturday.

It was the highlight of a record setting day for the Mountaineer women who finished seventh in the 14 team championship with a record 48 points.

“It was just an awesome performance by our women,” said a elated and sun burnt Mountaineer head coach Mike Rohl. “Rachel Hall becomes the second runner in school history to win a championship, Charity finishes second, and Amanda Fedish just goes out and shatters her own personal best to become an All-PSAC runner. This is what a championship is supposed to be and this is how you are supposed to feel.”

Hall passed teammate and preview event favorite Charity Learn with two laps to go and extended her lead until breaking the tape with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:20.13. Learn finished just behind her at 11:25.75 to give Mansfield its first ever 1-2 finish in PSAC Championship history.

Freshman Amanda Fedish earned All-PSAC honors with a third place finish in the 100 with a school record time of 12.33. Fedish also was fourth in the 200 with a school record 25.74.

Senior Steph Cadwell ended her outstanding collegiate career by finishing fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.52.

Freshman Casey Root also set a new school record with a fifth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 129-05, breaking a record that stood since 1983.

The 4 x 400 relay of Marissa Lucero, Amada Fedish, Katrina Brumfield, Steph Cadwell finished fourth overall with a school record time of 3:57.18. The 4 x 100 team consisting of the same runners, finished fifth over at 49.55.

In the men’s competition, the Mountaineer finished 12th overall with seven points. Senior

 Josh Wooten was the Mountaineers top scorer finishing third in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 9:37.60.

 

In the highly competitive 5,000, Chris Cummings took sixth place with a time of 15:26.81.
