FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE WOMEN’S SOCCER SHUTS OUT CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY BRINGING RECORD TO 2-0-1 -- OFF TO BEST START IN SCHOOL HISTORY

MANSFIELD – Anita Valerio (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) and Lyndi Keiser (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) each scored unassisted goals to lead Mansfield University to a 2-0 win over California University in PSAC women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The first goal of the game was not until the 83rd minute when Lyndi Keiser put the ball into the goal after sustained pressure in the box.  On the momentum from the first goal, Anita Valerio shot from about 15 yards out to score the second goal of the game in the 86th minute.

Complementing the goals, Julie Miller (Watkins Glen,NY/Watkins Glen) rose to the  occasion 13 times to stop every scoring  attempt by the California team, including back-to-back saves in the 85th and 86th minutes.

It marked the second shutout of the season for the Mountaineers

Mansfield is off to its best start in the program's four year history and now stands at 2-0-1. California drops to 1-2-1.

Mansfield will travel to West Chester University on Wednesday.
