FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE WOMEN’S SOCCER TO HOLD SECOND ANNUAL TENNIS BALL RACE TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR AREA CHARITIES

MANSFIELD – The hill on Campus Place at Mansfield University will be awash in tennis balls again when the Mansfield University women’s soccer team hold’s its second annual Tennis Ball Race on June 18.

Last year’s race raised more than $1,800 with half of the money going to area charities including Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital and the Mansfield United Fund.

“I believe it’s very important for our student-athletes to be involved in the community they live in nine months out of the year,” said head coach and race organizer Tim Dempsey. “It’s a fun event that has provided funds to both the soccer program and area charities.”

Fifty percent of the sales go back to women’s soccer program as a fund raiser while thirty percent goes to charity. The remaining twenty percent is given out as prizes to the top three finishers. Last year the winning ball paid $250 with $100 for second place and $50 for third.

The race concept is simple. All tennis balls sold are numbered and the first three balls to finish the course, which starts above Manser Hall and ends at the President’s House, are awarded prizes.

The second annual Tennis Ball Race will be held in conjunction with Mansfield University ’s Alumni Weekend, but tickets are available now through the Mountaineer women’s soccer program.
