WOMENS SOCCER TEAM FALLS 2-1 TO MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY
MILLERSVILLE- The
Mansfield University women’s soccer team lost by a score of 3-1 to the
women’s team from Millersville University Saturday afternoon at Millersville.
Freshman goalie Nicole Rodweller (Easton/Easton)
started the game in goal for the lady Mounties and was replaced with five
minutes to go in the first half after giving up two goals.
Sophomore Julie Miller (Watkins Glen,
NY/Watkins Glen) finished the game for the Mounties. Rodweller and Miller combined for 16 saves.
Millersville took a 2-0 lead into half time on a pair of
first half goals scored by Susan Kerr. Their
lead was quickly cut in half when sophomore Megan Colby (Lancaster/Conestoga
Valley) scored a goal, 6 minutes into the second half of play. Colby’s
goal was assisted by sophomore midfielder, Nicole
Nycz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South).
With the score 2-1 for much of the second period of play Millersville’s
Melissa Cameron scored with 20 minutes left in the game to make the final 3-1.
Mansfield managed six shots on goal in the game while
Millersville tallied 18. “We
played well overall,” said Mansfield head coach Tim Dempsey “ we just ran
out of gas late in the game.”
With the loss Mansfield moves to 1-2-1 on the season and will be back in action at home on the 17th of September when they host the University of Scranton.
