FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: HEAD COACH TIM DEMPSEY ANNOUNCES 2003 WOMEN’S SOCCER RECRUITING CLASS – NINE NEW MEMBERS COMMIT TO PLAYING AT MANSFIELD NEXT SEASON

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University head women’s soccer coach Tim Dempsey released his recruiting class of 2003 this afternoon.

Nine student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play for Mansfield University during the upcoming 2003 season.

“This is really a pretty exciting class,” Dempsey said. “All of them are quality athlete’s and students with some of them having the ability to make an immediate impact. We will be a better and deeper team this season because of this incoming class.”  

Mansfield fielded its first ever women’s soccer team last season, finishing with a 2-11 record. Most of the losses were by a goal.

 The Mountaineers open the 2003 season when they host Juniata College on Aug. 29.

Four-year member of Coughlin women’s soccer team … three time All-Star … three time division champions … 2002 District II Champions … 2002 Team MVP … Team defensive MVP in 2000, 2001 … two time team captain … four year letter winner … three time Keystone State Silver Medallists … National Honor Society 2000-2003.  

Amy Dominick – Manheim Township High School, Lancaster, PA – Defense

Erin Drum – Hollidaysburg High School, Hollidaysburg, PA – Forward

Four-year member of Hollidaysburg HS women’s soccer team … team captain … National Honor Society

Jacuelyn McCutcheon – Central Bucks West High School – Defense

Four-year member of Central Bucks West women’s soccer team … Rookie of the Year … 1^st team All-League … Unsung Hero Award … Defensive MVP Award

Nicole Rodweller – Easton High School, Easton, PA – Goalie

Four-year member of Easton women’s soccer team … three year letter winner … Most Improved Player Award during sophomore season … tied school shutout record as sophomore … Express-Times All-Area … MVP East Stroudsburg Tournament … team captain.

Jennifer Scalley – Easton High School, Easton, PA – midfielder

Four-year member of Easton High School women’s soccer team … 2001 Coaches Award Winner … Express-Times All-Area.

Leaah Sykes – Union Endicott High School, Endwell, NY – Forward

Four-year member of Union Endicott women’s soccer program … three year starter on varsity … led team in scoring sophomore season … named All-Division All-Star junior and senior seasons … NYS Section IV Champions … Participated in Geusselt Cup in Maastricht, Holland in 2003.

Britney Virgil – Penn Manor High School, Lancaster, PA – Defense

Four-year member of Penn Manor women’s soccer program … starter in junior and senior season … women state championship in spring of 2002 … National Honor Society.

Vanessa Wengen – Lake-Lehman High School, Hunlock Creek, PA – Defense

Four-year member of Lake Lehman women’s soccer program … member of Olympic Development Program state team in 1999 … two-time All-Star selection … team captain senior season … National Honor Society
