FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Slow first half dooms Mounties in 3-1 loss to Bloomsburg in PSAC East opener

MANSFIELD – Freshman Katelyn Smoker scored the game’s only second half goal but it wouldn’t be enough to over a 3-0 halftime deficit as Mansfield dropped its PSAC East season opener in a 3-1 setback to Bloomsburg at the Soccer Field Wednesday afternoon.

Mansfield struggled early giving up a goal to Ashley Brucker just three minutes into the game. Bloomsburg added another goal five minutes later when the ball went off a Mansfield defender into the goals and scored again in the 27^th minutes on a goal by Ali McCrossin.

Mansfield played much better, especially in the games final 20 minutes, in the second half and had a number of scoring chances before Smoker took a pass from Lyndi Keiser and put it past the Bloomsburg goalie in the 81^st minute.

Samantha DeLiere held Bloomsburg scoreless in the second half while Francis Micoletti had two saves for Bloomsburg.

Mansfield falls to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC East. The Mountaineers will host West Chester on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
