Mountie Women Drop 3-2 Decision at Shippensburg – Caroline Furmato and Lyndi Keiser each score for MU

SHIPPENSBURG  -- Caroline Furmato and Lyndi Keiser each scored a goal, but Shippensburg scored the last goal of the game on hung on for a 3-2 win over Mansfield in  PSAC East women’s soccer action late Wednesday night.

Shippensburg’s Gayle Kuntzmann scored the game’s first goal in the 13^th minute.

Furmato tied the score with under two minutes remaining in the first half, beating the defender and placing a low kick past the goalie.

Shippensburg carried the action for most of the first 30 minutes of the first half to take a 2-1 lead on a goal by Kellye Von Stetten before Lyndi Keiser tied the score on an assist from Colleen Corcoran.

Shippensburg would retake the lead less than a minute later and stop three Mountaineer scoring attacks in the final 10 minutes to hang on for the win.

Mansfield had three good opportunities in the last part of the game including shots by Corcoran in the final two minutes but was unable to convert.

Both team’s got off 18 shots with Mansfield goalie Justine Segear recording seven saves to Shippensburg’s Bethany Long’s 11.

Mansfield falls to 2-9 overall and 2-6 in the PSAC East while Shippensburg improves to 5-4-1 and 4-3-1 in conference play.
