FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountie Women’s Soccer Team Helps Kickoff MARA Soccer with Free Clinic

MANSFIELD – In what has become a tradition, the Mansfield University women’s soccer team took time out of its busy preseason camp schedule to host a free clinic for young soccer players in the MARA Youth Soccer League.

“The players actually look forward to this,” said head coach Tim Dempsey. “It’s a good break from our normal practice and they really do like working with the kids.”

Despite the threatening weather, more than 60 kids from kindergarten to the sixth grade showed up for the Saturday’s opening season clinic. Players participated at five different stations with hands-on – make that feet-on – supervision by the Mountaineer players.

From dribbling, to passing to striking the ball, the clinic covered all the basics.

“Its fun and the kids are great,” said senior captain Desiree Boris. “The little ones are so cute and so eager to play that it reminds us how fun soccer is supposed to be.”

It marks the third year the women’s soccer program has conducted the preseason clinic.

The Mansfield MARA Soccer League is set to start on Sunday, Sept. 10 at Smythe Park.
