RELEASE DATE: 10/5/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Anita Valerio Scored Twice in 2-1 Win over Lock Haven MANSFIELD – Anita Valerio scored twice, including the game winner in the 84th minute to lead Mansfield to a 2-1 win over Lock Haven in PSAC women’s soccer crossover contest Thursday afternoon. The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in the first half before Lock Haven got on the board on a goal by Colleen Kafka off an assist by Bekah Stonecypher seven minutes into the second half. Mansfield would tie the score at the 60 minute mark when Lyndi Keiser center the ball from baseline on the left side to Valerio who knocked in the kick from 10-yards out. Valerio would score the game winner just under five minutes later in a scramble in front of the net. Kaytlen Robinson headed the ball to Valerio who put in a right-footed shot right in front of the net. Lock Haven pressed the attack in the waning minutes, but the Mountaineer defense and goalie Justine Segear held on for the win. Segear recoded six saves while Lock haven’s Emily Wagner had three. Mansfield, which is 4-3-1 over the last seven games, improves to 4-9 overall and travels to Kutztown for a key PSAC East game Saturday afternoon.
