FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties and Bloom Battle to 1-1 Tie

MANSFIELD – Anita Valerio scored 15 seconds in to the second half and the two teams battled to a scoreless draw as Mansfield tied Bloomsburg 1-1 in women’s soccer action Tuesday afternoon.

“It’s disappointing to have it end in a tie,” said head coach Tim Dempsey. “But I was satisfied with the effort and desire our team showed in 110 minutes of play. We had our chances in OT, but jut missed.”

The start of the game was delayed because of lighting before the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie at halftime.

Mansfield took the opening kick of the second half working the ball into the Bloomsburg zone when Valerio caught the goalkeeper off the line and chipped in from 30 yards out.

Bloomsburg would tie the score less than 20 minutes later when Kelly Modes stuck a solid shot just under the crossbar from 35-yards out.

In the first overtime, the Mountaineers had a free kick from 22-yards but Valerio hard shot hit the top of the crossbar and bounced out of bounds.

Mansfield also had another opportunity in the second half when Lyndi Keiser stripped the ball and drove to net before the goalkeeper Brittany Moses came out and took the ball off her foot before she could get the shot off.

Bloomsburg held a 20-11 advantage on shot and 9-4 advantage in corner’s.

Justine Segear was credited with six saves for Mansfield with Moses also having six for Bloomsburg.
