RELEASE DATE: 9/13/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Drop ESU 3-0 For First Win of 2006 Season MANSFIELD -- The Mountaineer soccer team picked up their first win of the 2006 season at home on Wednesday afternoon, shutting out east Stroudsburg 3-0 in a PSAC East contest. Sophomore goalkeeper Justine Segear recorded her first collegiate shutout and her first collegiate win. "We came out with a great positive attitude today," said head coach Dempsey. "We were aggressive from the opening kickoff and really set the tone during the first fifteen minutes of the game." Mountaineer all-time scoring leader Colleen Corcoran put Mansfield on top in the fifth minute when she blasted a shot into the upper right corner of the net from 20 yards out. Amy Dominick was credited with the assist after crossing the ball to Corcoran. The momentum continued to swing towards Mansfield as they dominated possession through the first half. Sophomore scoring sensation Lyndi Keiser added another goal in the 23rd minute on a rebound off the Warrior's keeper and an assist from Robyn Travisano. Mansfield led 2-0 at halftime with momentum still clearly on their side. In the third minute of the second half, Lyndi Keiser found Anita Valerio in front of the net. Valerio beat the Warrior keeper one on one to add another goal to the Mountaineer lead. ESU would battle back in the second half but stellar defensive play and an outstanding job in the net held the Warriors scoreless. Justine Segear recorded eight saves in the shutout. The final tally on shots was even at 11-11 with Mansfield holding a slight 7-5 advantage on corner kicks. The Mountaineers move to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC East while East Stroudsburg drops to 1-5-2 overall and 0-4 in the PSAC East. Mansfield is back in action Sunday, September 17th at Caldwell College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00pm.
