RELEASE DATE: 9/7/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE WOMEN’S SOCCER SUFFERS FIRST LOSS OF SEASON IN 6-0 DECISION AT WEST CHESTER WEST CHESTER – The Mansfield University women’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season dropping a 6-0 decision at undefeated West Chester Wednesday afternoon. “West Chester is a pretty good program and maybe one of the top ten in Division II,” said head coach Tim Dempsey. “We didn’t play with as much aggression and confidence as we have in the first three games and that hurt a bit. But we will get better.” Mansfield had a chance to score the games first goal but could not convert on a 2-on-1 break in the first minutes of the contest. West Chester, which has hasn’t allowed a goal in four games this season, took just 11 shots to the Mountaineers three, but work the ball with precision to find the open net. Lauren Rutter had a hat trick with three goals to lead West Chester while Julie Miller had five saves in goal for Mansfield. The Mountaineers are now 1-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in PSAC East play. West Chester improves to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Mansfield will host Shippensburg on Saturday.
