FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES BATTLE MILLERSVILLE TO 0-0 TIE IN 2 OT

MANSFIELD – Mansfield out shot Millersville 6-1 in overtime, but the Mountaineers could not get on the scoreboard and had to settle for a 0-0 in double overtime in a PSAC East contest Wednesday afternoon.

“It’s frustrating when you get that close and have that many chances to score,” said head coach Tim Dempsey. “But we played well for the most part and put ourselves into positions to win the game. We just couldn’t get the ball to go in.”

The Mountaineers had one of their best scoring opportunities early in the game when freshman Kaytlen Robinson drilled a shot that hit the upper left hand elbow of the goal and bounded directly out.

Millersville had its best scoring opportunity to score later on in the first period when Carly Kabbeko’s shot into the lower right hand side of the net off a direct kick was stopped by a diving Julie Miller.

The Mountaineers controlled the tempo of the game throughout the second half and in both overtimes, holding a 13-6 shot advantage over that span.

Miller played all 110 minutes while recording six saves while Karrine Riggins had 12 saves for Millersville.

It marked the second time the two teams have battled to a tie this season. Mansfield goes to 4-4-3 and 1-4-2 in the PSAC East.

The Mountaineers will host West Chester this Saturday at 11 am.
