RELEASE DATE: 8/28/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE WOMEN’S SOCCER OPENS 2005 CAMPAIGN WITH 2-0 WIN OVER GEORGIAN COURT – WIN SEASON OPENER FOR THIRD TIME IN FOUR YEARS MANSFIELD – Colleen Corcoran Allentown/Central Catholic) and Kim Pachuta (Nazareth/Pen Argyl) each scored unassisted goals to lead Mansfield University to a 2-0 win over Georgian Court in the season opener for both schools Sunday afternoon. “It was a good game to open the season with,” said head coach Tim Dempsey, after the first game of his fourth season at the helm. “We were a little tentative in the first half and needed to make more things happen on offense. We did a much better job of that in the second half and that’s encouraging.” The Mountaineers held a 10-0 shot advantage in the first half, but could not find the back of the net before Corcoran hit a 20-yard shot from the right side three minutes into the second half. Pachuta would add another unassisted goal, this one from the left side, just over three minutes for her first collegiate score. Julie Miller (Watkins Glen,NY/Watkins Glen) was not challenged in the goal for Mansfield for the first eighty minutes of the game before being relieved by freshman Justine Segear who recorded a save late in the game on Georgian Court’s most series threat. Mansfield has 23 shots on goal, the second most in school history and the most shots in a win, to Georgina Courts one. Goalie Jamie Kaiser recorded seven saves. Mansfield (1-0) won its season opener for the third straight season. The Mountaineers open the PSAC season when they travel to Millersville on Wednesday.
