FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: WOMEN’S SOCCER BATTLES CAL TO 1-1 TIE

CALIFORNIA, PA --  Abby Matsinger scored on a breakaway and Kim Pachuta’s shot with three minutes left in the game hit the crossbar and bounced out of the goal as Mansfield settled for a 1-1 tie at California in a PSAC women’s soccer game Saturday afternoon.

“We had a number of chances that we failed to capitalize on,” said head coach Tim Dempsey. “For the most part, we carried the game offensively, and come close to putting in the winning goal at least three times, but just couldn’t get the ball into net.”

A freshman, Matsinger scored her first collegiate goal two minutes before the end of the first half and the Mountaineers held the lead until Erin Riggle’s goal in the 65^th minute.

Mansfield almost pulled out the win when Pachuta’s shot hit the crossbar and bounded away from the goal with under three minutes in regulation.

Mansfield held a 19-15 advantage in shots while Julie Miller recorded seven saves in goal for the Mountaineers.

Mansfield is now 4-4-2 on the season on Tuesday.
