MANSFIELD UNIVERSITY SOCCER LOSES WET ONE TO WEST CHESTER

FRESHMAN LYNDI KEISER TIES SCHOOL RECORD FOR GOALS IN SEASON

MANSFIELD -- Mansfield University started strong, but lost a rain-soaked game 5-1 to unbeaten West Chester in a women’s PSAC East soccer match Saturday afternoon.

In their homecoming game, the Mountaineers scored early on an unassisted goal by Lyndi Keiser off a breakaway in the third minute of the game. Keiser outraced two defenders before outmaneuvering the onrushing goal to bury the ball from 15 yards out. It was her sixth goal of the season tying her for the school record for most goals in a season set my Megan Colby in the program first season in 2002.   

During the remainder of the first half, the Mansfield defense played tough. Despite 18 shots on goal in the half, West Chester was only able to score once. Maureen Quigley scored on a header off a corner kick with 12 minutes remaining in the first half to knot the score at 1-1.

West Chester came on strong in the second half as Quigley scored on a assist from Danielle Gertz 36 seconds into the half.

The Golden Rams followed that up with two unassisted goals by Julie Karcher at the 58th and 67th minute marks. West Chester ended the scoring with another unassisted goal, this one by Sophia Matangos.

West Chester had 39 shots on goal, while the Mountaineers recorded four.

Mansfield goal keeper Julie Miller recorded 15 saves on the day.

The loss drops Mansfield to 4-5-3 on the year and 1-5-2 in the PSAC East. West Chester improves to 12-0-1 on the year and 8-0-1 in the PSAC East.
