RELEASE DATE: 10/29/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CORCORAN SCORES TWICE TO LEAD MANSFIELD TO 3-0 WIN OVER BLOOMFIELD – POST FIRST WINNING RECORD IN SCHOOL HISTORY BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- Sophomore Colleen Corcoran scored two goals and assisted on another to lead Mansfield to a 3-0 over Bloomfield College Saturday afternoon. The victory capped off an historic year that saw Mansfield post its first winning record in the program’s four year history. “I’m happy for all of our players and for the program,” said head coach Tim Dempsey. “You don’t know how your going to come out after an emotional win like we had yesterday (2-1 over East Stroudsburg), but everyone knew what was at stake and they did what they needed to do.” Corcoran scored her first goal three minutes into the game when freshman Lyndi Keiser went on a breakaway, flicking the ball to Corcoran when the goalie came out. Amy Dominick scored the game’s second goal in the 30th minute from six yards out after taking a crossing pass from Corcoran. The Mountaineers put the game away when Corcoran scored again off a goalie rebound in the 61st minute. Julie Miller recorded a shutout in her final game of her outstanding career, stopping five shots. The win ends the Mountaineers season with a 8-7-3 mark, a dramatic turnaround from last year’s 2-13-2 record and an impressive winning season in just the fourth year of existence.
Mansfield shattered virtually every school and individual school record including wins, goals (33), assists (12), points (78) and shutouts (4). Freshman Lyndi Keiser shattered the single season records for goals (9) and points (21). Colleen Corcoran record the second most goals (8) and points (18) in a season. Julie Miller, who holds every goalkeeping record, set a new mark for shutouts in a season (4).
