FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES FALL 2-1 AT EAST STROUDSBURG

EAST STROUDSBURG – Charlene Conklin broke up a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 53^rd minute of play to lift East Stroudsburg to a 2-1 over Mansfield in PSAC East women’s soccer Sunday afternoon.

ESU’s Julie Bynes scored the first goal six minutes into the game before the Mountaineers came right back with freshman Caroline Furmato scoring off a corner thirty seconds later. It marked Furmato’s second goal of the season and her second in the last two games.

The two team settled in a defensive game until Conklin scored the winning goal.

The Mountaineers had a couple of chances later in the game to tie the score, but could not find the back of the net.

East Stroudsburg held a 16-7 advantage in shots and a 11-6 advantage in corner’s.

Julie Miller had 12 saves in goal for the Mountaineers.

Mansfield falls to 2-12-2 overall and 0-10-1 in the PSAC East. East Stroudsburg improves to 7-10-1 and 3-7-1 in conference play.

The Mountaineers will wrap up the 2004 season when they host Millersville on Tuesday.
