RELEASE DATE: 10/20/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES BATTLE EDINBORO TO 1-1 TIE IN DOUBLE OVERTIME – FRESHMAN CAROLINE FURMATO SCORES FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL MANSFIELD – Freshman Caroline Furmato scored her first collegiate goal and Julie Miller recorded 10 saves as Mansfield University battled Edinboro University to a 1-1 double overtime tie in PSAC women’s soccer Wednesday afternoon. After a scoreless first half, Edinboro got on the board first when Angie de Almeida scored off a corner kick by Ashley Pulman at the 47 minute mark. Twenty minutes later, Furmato ran down a ball deep in the right corner and lifted it above her body into the upper left corner of the net to tie the score. Furmato came close to winning the game in overtime, but her shot hit the right hand posted four minutes into the first overtime. Julie Miller had a key save in each overtime period to preserve the tie. Edinboro held a 17-5 shot advantage and 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Mansfield is now 2-11-2 on the season while Edinboro goes to 5-7-3. The Mountaineers travel to East Stroudsburg on Sunday.
