FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE DEFENSE FALLS JUST SHORT IN 1-0 LOSS TO SHIPPENSBURG

MANSFIELD – Nikki Kegerreis’s goal off a penalty corner in the first half proved to be the only score of the game as Shippensburg posted a 1-0 win over Mansfield Wednesday afternoon in a PSAC East matchup.

Although unable to score, the Mountaineers played an outstanding defensive game with goalie Nicole Rodweller recording 12 saves including three spectacular back-to-back saves late in the game to keep the Mountaineers hopes alive.

Mansfield twice came close to tying the game in the second on two shots by Megan Colbey. The first hit off the crossbar and a second shot later in the game went wide right.

Shippensburg held a 20-5 advantage in shots including a 12-2 advantage in the second half.

Shippensburg improves to 5-4-1 and 2-1 in the conference while falls to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the PSAC East.

The Mountaineers travel to West Chester on Saturday.
