FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE WOMEN CAN’T OVERCOME SLUGGISH FIRST HALF IN 59-46 LOSS TO FRANKLIN PIERCE IN OPENING GAME OF BRIDGEPORT PURPLE KNIGHT CLASSIC

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The Mansfield University women’s basketball team could not overcome a sluggish first half in a 59-46 setback to Franklin Pierce in the opening game of the Bridgeport Purple Knight Classic Saturday afternoon.

Mansfield managed to connect of just 6-of-31 attempts (19.4%) in falling behind 36-13 at intermission. The Mountaineers outscored Franklin Pierce 33-23 in the second half, but could not overcome the halftime margin.

Jessica Pfeiffer led Mansfield with 13 points with Rachel Rieder adding nine points and eight rebounds.

Danielle D’Ettorre scored a game high 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to led Franklin Pierce.

Mansfield falls to 1-4 overall and will play the host University of Bridgeport at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
