RELEASE DATE: 1/21/04 FOR IMMEDIATE: MOUNTIE WOMEN SUFFER 75-65 SETBACK AT BLOOMSBURG BLOOMSBURG – Bloomsburg went on a 15-8 run over the final six minutes of the game to pull out a 75-65 win over Mansfield in a women’s PSAC East contest at Nelson Fieldhouse Wednesday night. The Mountaineers looked unstoppable over the first 15 minutes of the game behind senior Jessica Pfeiffer who scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half. Mansfield led 31-20 on a jumper by Pfeiffer with 4:59 left. Mansfield had a 35-26 lead with 2:27 remaining in the half before Bloomsburg went on a 7-0 run to trail 35-33 at intermission. Mansfield would increase the lead to 43-36 on a 3-pointer by Stephanie Rieser two minutes into the second half. Bloomsburg would continue to chip away and took their first lead of the game at the 14:30 mark at 45-44 and held a 60-57 advantage with just under six minutes to play. Bloomsburg would not score a field goal over the final 3:33 of the game, but the Huskies connected on 8-of-10 free throws for the last three minutes to pull out the win. The Huskies bench outscored Mansfield by a 31-6 margin and held a 47-35 rebounding advantage. Alison Tagliaferri led four Mountaineers in double figure with 21 points with Pfeiffer scoring 14 points and Stephanie Rieser 13. Rachel Rieder just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Dominque Deveaux led Bloomsburg with 21 points. The Mountaineers fall to 1-2 in the PSAC East and 9-11 overall. Bloomsburg improves to 8-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play. |
