FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES FALL TO #1 RANKED SOUTH DAKOTA IN OPENING GAME OF WALT DISNEY TIP-OFF CLASSIC

ORLANDO, FL – Alison Tagliaferri and Christine Ross each scored eight points for Mansfield University in a 64-32 loss to #1 ranked South Dakota in the opening game the Walt Disney Tip-Off Classic at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando Friday afternoon.

Stephanie Rieser hit a lay-up in the first minute of the game to give Mansfield an early 2-0 lead, but it would be all South Dakota for the remainder of the first half.

The Mountaineers entered the tournament with just two weeks of practice and turned the ball over 27 times while shooting just 27.5% from the floor.

Tagliaferri showed flashes of her old self after being forced to sit out most of last season. Jessica Pfeiffer added seven points while Stephanie Rieser had a team high seven rebounds.

All-American Mandy Koupal led South Dakota with 15 points while Erin Bourne added 15.

Mansfield plays #6 ranked Central Arkansas tomorrow afternoon.
