FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD FALLS TO MILLERSVILLE 67-53

MILLERSVILLE- Mansfield University came up short in a bid to upset Millersville University 67-53 Saturday afternoon at Pucillo Gymnasium.

Mansfield found themselves trailing early on in the first half as Millersville started the game on a 7-0 run. Despite being down by 13 points with 9:40 remaining in the first half, the Mountaineers climbed back into the game behind the efforts of sophomore Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) who scored 14 of her game high 20 points in the first half.

Mansfield cut the Millersville lead to just one on a fast break lay-up by freshman Jessica Ulrich (Palmyra/Palmyra) with less than one minute to play in the half but could come no closer as Millersville took a 31-27 lead into intermission.

In the second half of play, foul trouble plagued the Mountaineers with Rachel Rieder (Cranberry Township/Seneca Valley) and Tagliaferri both in foul trouble with four fouls each. Mansfield would never gain the lead in the second half as Millersville increased their lead to as much as 14 points.

Junior Stephanie Rieser Barnegat NJ/Southern Regional) finished the game with 12 points and five rebounds with Uhrich adding 11 points and six rebounds.

The Mountaineers fall to 9-10 overall and 1-1 in PSAC East play.  Mansfield will travel to Bloomsburg on Wed. to take on the Huskies of Bloomsburg University.
