FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD’S TWO GAME WINNING STREAK SNAPPED; FALL TO WEST CHESTER 67-51

MANSFIELD- Despite Alison Tagliaferri’s (Linden/Jersey Shore) third straight double-double, Mansfield fell to West Chester University 67-51 in a PSAC East match-up Saturday afternoon at Decker Gymnasium.

In the beginning of the first half Mansfield played West Chester close, when senior Jessica Pfeiffer (Erie/Seneca Valley) drained a three point basket to cut the West Chester lead to just two points. Pfeiffer finished the game with 10 points and three steals. Two possessions later, Mansfield tied the game at nine, on a Tagliaferri two-pointer. 

However, West Chester would later go on a 9-0 run with just over three minutes to play till intermission. The Golden Rams expanded their lead to 12 going into the locker rooms with the score 35-23.

In the second half, the Golden Rams continued to roll expanding their lead to as much as 19, midway through the half, 49-30.  They would go on to win the game 67-51.

Stephanie Rieser (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) and Tagliaferri had a team high 14 points for the Mountaineers. 

With the loss Mansfield is now 11-12 overall and 2-3 in PSAC East play. West Chester improves to 10-9 and remains undefeated in the PSAC East at 5-0

The Mountaineers next game is 5:30 p.m. Wed. night at Decker Gymnasium as Mansfield plays host to the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University.
