FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD DEFEATS EAST STROUDSBURG 66-43 FOR TWELFTH WIN OF SEASON; MOST SINCE ’82-’83 SEASON

MANSFIELD-Mansfield University defeated East Stroudsburg University 66-43 Wednesday night at Decker Gymnasium in a PSAC East match-up.

The Mountaineers started the first half of play on a 10-2 run and ended the half on a 15-3 run behind the shooting performance of seniors Nadia Gauronsky (Summit Hill/Panther Valley) and Jessica Pfeiffer (Erie/Seneca), both combining for 20 first half points and four for six shooting from the three point line.  Pfeiffer finished the game with team high 16 points, which surpassed the 900 career points mark.  She currently has 914 points.

Mansfield led 41-17 going into the locker room at halftime.  In the second half, the Mountaineers continued to roll past East Stroudsburg for their twelfth victory of the season.  The win marks the most wins in Mountaineer women basketball history since the 1982-1983 season in which Mansfield won 14 games.

Senior Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) added 15 points and four rebounds for the Mountaineers.

With the win, Mansfield improves to 12-12 over all and 3-3 in the PSAC East standings. The Mountaineers will play host to the Marauders of Millersville University, Fri. Feb. 7 at Decker Gymnasium.
