FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD DEFEATS CHEYNEY UNIVERSITY 97-55 FOR 13^th WIN; MOST SINCE 82-83 SEASON

MANSFIELD-On senior day, senior Jessica Pfeiffer (Erie/Seneca) scored a season high 31 points as Mansfield University defeated Cheyney University 97-55 Saturday afternoon at Decker Gymnasium.

In the first half the Mountaineers were led by sophomore Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore), junior Stephanie Rieser ( Barnegat, NJ / Southern Regional), and Pfeiffer who combined scored 26 first half points.

Later in the half, Mansfield went on a 10-2 run which was capped off by a two pointer by Rieser for a 36-19 lead with 4:08 remaining before intermission. Rieser finished with 14 points.

The Mountaineers would increase their lead to as much as 17 off a pair of free throws from sophomore Tiffany Taylor (Media/Strath Haven) for a 40-23 lead with 1:35 on the clock. Mansfield would go into the locker rooms with a 42-27 lead.

Mansfield’s offense continued to roll, as they shot 53.8 percent from the field in the second half. The Mountaineers extended their lead to 62-40 off a three point basket by Pfeiffer with 11:15 to play in regulation.  Pfeiffer finished with a season high 31 points as sje continues to close in on the 1,000 point milestone with 975 career points. 

The Mountaineers would increase the lead to as much as 45 points, 90-45, on a pair of free throws by senior Rachel Rieder (Cranberry Township/Seneca Valley) with 5:00 minutes left in the game. Rieder finished with 10 points.

Tagliaferri finished with 14 points passing Becky Dutko (885) for 11^th on the all time scoring list.  She now has 890 career points.

Mansfield would go on to win 97-55 for their 13^th win of the season which is the second most in school history since a school record 14 wins in the 1982-83 season.  The Mountaineers need just one more win to tie the school record for most wins in the season.

The Mountaineers next game is 6 p.m. Wednesday as they play host to Bloomsburg University .
