FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTAINEER WOMEN OPEN 2003-2004 SEASON THIS WEEKEND AT NATION’S ELITE WALT DISNEY CLASSIC IN ORLANDO – FACE PRESEASON #1 RANKED SOUTH DAKOTA IN SEASON OPENER 

MANSFIELD – You can tell the Mansfield University women’s basketball program has earned a lot of respect over the past two seasons.

The Mountaineers are one of four teams in the nation invited to open their season two weeks early when they play in the Walt Disney NCAA Division II Tip-Off Classic Nov. 7-9.

“This is a great opportunity for us,” head coach Ruth Henderson-Hermansen said. “To be invited to the elite Tip-Off Tournament in the nation says a lot about how much our program has improved.”

Mansfield, which returns three starters off last season’s 11-15 team, will open the season against #1 ranked South Dakota at 1 p.m. at the Walt Disney World Sports Complex.

The Mountaineers will then face the #6 team in the NCAA Division II preseason poll when they take on the University of Central Arkansas at 1 p.m. on Nov. 8. They will play #12 ranked Drury University at 8:30 on Nov. 9 before returning home.
