FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD UNIVERSITY WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM OPENS 2003-2004 WITH MOUNTIE MADNESS THIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT – EVENT FREE AND OPENED TO THE PUBLIC

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University women’s basketball team hopes to kick start what is hoped the best season in the program’s history when they open the campaign with Mountie Madness this Wednesday night starting at 8 p.m. in Decker Gymnasium.

Mountie Madness makes the first official for the women’s team and will start with comments on the upcoming season by head coach Ruth Henderson-Hermansen. Following team introductions, the squad will be divided up for a scrimmage with Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Shari Clarke serving as coach of the white team and Provost Dr. Michael Lane serving as head coach of the red team.

A 3-point shooting contest at halftime will feature members of the team. Following the scrimmage, four fans will be chosen to shoot and the fan with the highest total wins a $50 gift certificate from the MU Bookstore.

Vice President of Development Merritt Yackey will take on Assistant Director of Public Relations Terry Day in a free throw contest with each representing a fan. 

Free pizza, a six-foot sub and soda will be available during the event.

Mountie Madness is free and open to the general public.
