FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountie Women Fall to Millersville University by 19 Points

MANSFIELD  -- The women’s basketball team lost in PSAC Eastern Division action Saturday afternoon against the visiting Millersville team 59-40 bringing the Mansfield record to 4-14 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

It took both teams three minutes into the first half to score. Millersville’s Ashley Moyer opened up the day with a good layup which was followed by a Mansfield layup from Nicole Pender. One minute later Millersville responded with another layup but this time from Raquel Green. Mallory Moore scored just 20 seconds later to tie the score at 4-4.

Millersville’s Green hit another layup just seconds after to take the lead again and the Marauders never looked back as they rounded out the first half 42-19.

The second half’s pace for the Mountaineers did not change in the terms of defense with Millersville being as far ahead of the Mounties by 34 points.

Leading the Mountaineers in points was Moore with 12 and Julia Stevenson with 10. Millersville’s leading scorers were Green with 17 and Moyer with 10. Stevenson led the Mounties in rebounds with nine followed by Moore with seven. Millersville’s Green had seven rebounds with Aurielle Mosley having six.

The Mountaineers were shooting 25 percent from the floor, 10 percent from the arc and 87.5 percent from the free throw line. Millersville was 40.7 percent from the floor, 20 percent from the arc and 69.2 percent from the free throw line.

The Mountaineers will travel to Bloomsburg University on Wednesday February 3 at 5:30 pm.
