FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield suffers opening round loss to Lake Erie in opening round of Mansfield Comfort Inn Classic Friday

MANSFIELD – Mallory Moore, Mallory Hafer and Nicole Pender combined for 24 points but the Mountaineers were no match for Lake Erie as Mansfield dropped a 83-38 decision to the Storm in the opening round of the Mansfield Comfort Inn Classic Friday night in Decker Gymnasium.

Lake Erie shot a torrid 63% from the floor over the first 10 minutes of the game building a 26-8 lead and increased that lead to 48-24 at halftime.

Lake Erie held a 42-30 rebounding advantage and forced 22 Mansfield turnovers .

Moore led Mansfield with nine points and also pulled down eight rebounds. Mallory Hafer scored eight points and Pender seven.

Renese Ames came off the bench to lead Lake Erie (6-2) with a game-high 18 points with Brittany Zele scoring 14 points.

In the other first round contest, Meg Murphy scored a game-best 21 points to lead Le Moyne to a 65-61 win over Slippery Rock. Nikki Presto scored 18 points for Slippery Rock.

Slippery Rock will play Lake Erie Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by Mansfield hosting Le Moyne at 3 p.m.
