MANSFIELD – Senior Clarissa Correll (Mansfield/Mansfield) and freshman Morgan Hafer (Sayre/Athens) scored 13 points apiece while junior Mallory Hafer (Sayre/Athens) added 12 points to lead Mansfield to a 90-56 non-conference win over Penn College Monday evening in Decker Gymnasium.

Mansfield never trailed in the game building a 21-9 lead midway through the first half on a Correll free throw but Penn College cut the lead to 23-16 on a jumper by Chelsey Holmes three minutes later.

It would as close as Penn College would manage to get with Mansfield going on a 19-9 run over the final eight minutes of the half to take a 42-25 lead at intermission.

Mansfield shot 46% from the floor for the game including 40% (10-25) on three-point attempts and held a 48-38 rebounding advantage while forcing 25 Penn College turnovers.

Senior point guard Courtney Brooks (Harrisburg/Susquehanna Township) only scored two points but dished out seven assists and was credited with seven steals.

All but two of the 14 Mountaineer players who saw action scored in the game with freshman Mallory Moore (Beech Creek/Central Mountain) scoring nine points and pulling down five rebounds in just 19 minutes of action.

The 90 points are the most scored by the Mountaineers in a game since opening the 2005-06 season with a 91-74 win over Columbia Union.

Chelsey Holmes led Penn College(4-4) with a game high 17 points while Erica Logan added 10 points.

Mansfield, which had played since beating Chestnut Hill 15 days ago, improved to 2-1 on the season and will play Point Park in the opening game of the Houghton Classic on Friday night.
