FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: IUP runs away from Mansfield women in second half

INDIANA, PA – IUP scored the first 14 points of the second half to break a halftime tie and beat Mansfield 71-47 in a PSAC crossover game in women’s basketball Sunday afternoon.

Mansfield (1-3) took a 10-6 led five minutes into the game on a jumper by Brittany Reed (Coal Township) and held a 18-13 advantage on layup by Jeannette Meacham (Clairton) at the 10 minute mark. The Mountaineers still had a 33-29 lead with 1:50 remaining before IUP scored the last four points of the half to tie the game 33-33 at intermission.

But the second half would belong to IUP with the Crimson Hawks ripping off 14 straight points before Emily Akins (Elmia,NY) finally hit a basketball for Mansfield six minutes into the second half.

Mansfield, which hit 54% of its first half shots, made just 28% of its attempts in the second half while scoring just 14 points.

Courtney Brooks (Harrisburg) led Mansfield with 12 points. The point guard also pulled down five rebounds with three assists and three steals. Guard Clarissa Correll (Mansfield) scored nine points and pulled down a team high six rebounds while blocking a career-best three shots. Meacham scored a season high eight points.

IUP (7-0) was led by Tracey Jahzinga with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Rylie Miller added 12 points.

Mansfield will travel to Houghton next Saturday.
