FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountaineer women fall to #6 ranked Drury at South Padre Shootout South Padre Island, TX -- The Mansfield University women's basketball team got off to a slow start and could never recover in a 79-48 loss to #6 ranked Drury University (MO) in the opening round of the South Padre Shootout Friday evening.
Drury jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first
five minutes before Mansfield pulled to 14-10 at the 8:56 mark of the first
half but the Mountaineers could pull no closer.
Drury upped its lead to 41-22 at halftime as
Mansfield managed to shot just 21% from the floor in the first half.
Jeanette Meacham led Mansfield
(3-5) in scoring with 12 points along with a team high eight rebounds.
Courtney Brooks added 11 points with Alicia Espigh
scoring 10.
Melanie Oliver and Molly Carter each scored 15
points for Drury (8-1).
