FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: First half deficit dooms Mansfield women in 72-59 loss at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG – Jeannette Meacham scored a game-high 22 points but it wouldn’t be enough to overcome a first half deficit as Mansfield dropped a 72-59 decision in a PSAC East game at Bloomsburg Wednesday evening.

The two teams were tied a 10-10 on a layup by Katie Akins seven minutes into the game before Bloomsburg put together 15-5 run to take a 25-15 lead with nine minutes remaining in the first half.

Bloomsburg would increase the lead to 37-22 with just over a minute to play before intermission before a 3-pointer by Clarissa Correll at the buzzer closed the gap to 37-26 at halftime.

Mansfield couldn’t match Bloomsburg size inside as the Huskies increased their lead 58-40 midway through the second half.

Meacham scored a career-best 22 points including 16 in the second half and pulled down a team-best six rebounds. Clarissa Correll scored 13 points with a game-best five assists. Alicia Espigh added 10 points, her five straight game scoring double figures.

Bloomsburg had four players score in double-figures led by Lauren Healy with 16 points and Kelly Joyce adding 15 points.

Mansfield host Millersville this Saturday afternoon in Decker Gymnaisum.
