FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Shippensburg Runs Away in Second Half in 70-46 win over Mounties – Jess Uhrich Scores Game High 17 points

Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG – Jess Uhrich (Palmyra/Palmyra) scored a game-high 17 points but Shippensburg used a strong second half to beat Mansfield 70-46 in a PSAC crossover game at Heiges Field House Wednesday evening.

The Mountaineers played the Red Raiders even through much of the first half, taking a 22-18 lead on Emily Akins (Elmira,NY/Southside) 3-pointer with 8:30 left in the first half. But the cold shooting Mounties were able to score just two more points before intermission to trail 30-24 at halftime.

Mansfield cut the lead to 35-22 on an Uhrich jumper three minutes into the second half but Shippensburg responded by going on a 17-3 run over the next five minutes to effectively put the game out of reach.

The Mountaineers suffered by far their worst shooting performance of the season hitting on just 29.5% of their shots from the floor and were just 3-7 from the free throw line. The 46 points were the least scored in a game this season, 21 points below Mansfield points per game average this year.

Uhrich, who has scored in double figures in all nine games this season, also pulled down a team high five rebounds while recording two steals. Emily Akins came off the bench to score a season high 11 points, hitting on 3-4 3-pointers with three rebounds. Courtney Brooks (Harrisburg/Susquehanna Township) added nine points.

Megan Fogle led Shippensburg (6-4) with 16 points with Lauren Beckley scoring 13 points and Shanna Oaddams 12. The Red Raiders connected on 53% of their shots from the floor including 66.7% in the second half.

Mansfield (5-4) will take a 10-day break before traveling to Goldey-Beacom College on Dec. 30.
