FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jess Uhrich’s Double-Double Helps Mansfield to 72-56 Win over Messiah

Box Score

MANSFIELD – Senior Jess Uhrich (Palmyra/Palmyra) recorded her first double-double of the season with a game high 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead Mansfield to a 72-56 win over Messiah College Saturday afternoon at Decker Gymnasium.

“That’s as well as we’ve played as a team in a while,” said head coach Ruth Hermansen whose Mountaineers improve to 3-0 on the season. “We shot well, rebounded well and ran the press effectively. It was just a solid all-around team effort that everyone contributed to -- a good win over a good team.”

Messiah came into the game with a 2-0 record and ranked #10 in the nation in NCAA Division III but Mansfield came out hot, building a 17-5 lead in the first six minutes of the game. Uhrich scored seven points over that stretch with sophomore Mallory Hafer (Sayre/Athens) added five points.

Alicia Espigh (Lewistown/Lewistown) scored all 12 of her points in the first half while Uhrich added 11 points to give Mansfield a 43-26 halftime lead.

Mansfield would increase its lead to as much as 20 points with Messiah never able to pull closer than 15 points in the second half.

Sophomore Clarissa Correll (Mansfield/Mansfield) came off the bench to score a career best 13 points while also dishing out three assists. In addition to her double-double, Uhrich also added four assists and two steals while shooting 11-17 from the floor.

Mansfield shot a season best 50.8% from the floor to Messiah’s 36.5%.

Ashley Brooks came off the bench to lead Messiah (2-1) with 16 points with Sarah Ringer adding 10 points.

Mansfield host Clarion next Saturday.
