FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties ice-cold for second straight game in 59-35 loss at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN – Just when they thought they couldn’t get any colder, the Mansfield University women’s basketball team shot an ice-cold 20% from the floor in dropping a 59-35 decision to Kutztown in a PSAC East game at Keystone Hall Wednesday night.

The Mountaineer just couldn’t buy a basket missing their first 15 shots of the game before Mallory Hafer final got them on the scoreboard with a 3-pointer almost ten minutes into the game.

Trailing 19-8 with 4:12 to go in the first half, the Mountaineers finally find some offense behind a seven-point spurt from Clarissa Correll to close the game to 21-17 at halftime.

Mansfield shot just 23% from the floor in the first half and was even colder in the second half hitting17% of their second half attempts. Kutztown was just the opposite shooting 61.9% from the floor in the second half. The Mountaineers didn’t score a field goal for during a nine-minute stretch breaking the streak on Jess Uhrich jumper with 2:19 to play.

Uhrich led the Mountaineers with 14 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Correll scored 13 points with five rebounds.

Lara Dellegrotti scored a game high 15 points for Kutztown with Mercedes Van Wagner adding 12 and Vivian Melvin 10 points.

The Mountaineers fall to 11-11 overall and remain in fourth place with a 4-4 PSAC mark, one game ahead of Kutztown (7-15, 3-5).

Mansfield, which has played five of the last six games on the road, will host Cheyney this Saturday at Decker Gymnasium.
