FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountaineers Fade in Second Half -- Drop 68-60 Decision at Mercyhurst

ERIE – Mansfield entered the second half tied with Mercyhurst at 31-31 but faded down the stretch dropping a 68-60 decision Saturday afternoon in Erie. Jessica Uhrich led the Mounties with 16 points and seven rebounds.

The game remained close throughout the first half with both teams exchanging the lead for the first 8:00 minutes of play before Mercyhurst went on a 7-0 run to take an 18-11 lead with 11:45 to play in the half. Courtney Brooks ended the run with a 3-pointer to spark 20-13 run to the end of the half to send the game to intermission tied at 31-31.

Mansfield took the lead 35-33 on a fast-break layup by Kelli Eastman with 16:39 to play sparking a Mountie run that built the lead to six points following a layup by Uhrich.

Mercyhurst responded with 11 unanswered points to regain the lead at 46-41 with 11:35 to play.

The resilient Mountaineers battled back again, tying the game for the seventh time on a Katie Akins jumper with 5:57 remaining leaving the score 51-51.

Mercyhurst responded once again with an 8-0 run to regain the lead 61-52 with just under 2:00 to play. Mansfield score eight points over the final two minutes but it was not enough as the Mounties fell 68-60.

Uhrich led Mansfield with 16 points and seven rebounds while Clarissa Correll added 11 points. Courtney Brooks had nine points and five steals while Kelli Eastman had a career high eight points including 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Jeanette Meacham led the Mountaineers in rebounds pulling in eight boards.

Julie Anderson and Lindsay Whipkey each had 18 points for Mercyhurst while Katlyn Petit had 16. Six players contributed to all of Mercyhurst's 68 points.

Mansfield shot well under it's season field goal percentage average at 35.7% for the game while Mercyhurst shot 40.4% from the field.

Mercyhurst held a slight rebounding advantage at 40-37.

The Mountaineers fall to 5-2 on the season while Mercyhurst improves to 4-6.

Mansfield is back in action on Tuesday, December 19 when they travel to Lock Haven for a PSAC crossover contest. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
