MANSFIELD – Courtney Brooks led four Mountaineer women in double figures as Mansfield picked up it's second win in a row with a strong second half showing to defeat Edinboro 63-54 on Saturday afternoon at Decker Gymnasium in Mansfield.

After a scoreless two minutes to start the game, Mallory Hafer led off the Mountaineer scoring with a 3-pointer and a lay-up as Mansfield took a one point advantage at 5-4 with 16:41 to play in the first half.

Edinboro responded with four unanswered points to take the lead 8-5 as they held an advantage until 7:53 to play in the half when Emily Akins tied the game at 17-17 on a 3-pointer.

Mansfield regained the lead 19-17 on a lay-up by Clarissa Correll with just under six minutes to play in the half but the Fighting Scots would take control again on the next possession building a six point advantage down the stretch to take a 30-24 lead into the intermission.

The Mountaineers shot 34.6% from the field, 25% from the 3-point line, and 80% from the free throw line in the first half while Edinboro was 41.9% from the field and 16.7% from the arc.

Mansfield made the proper adjustments during halftime and appeared to  be a different team in the second half opening up with a 6-0 run sparked by a 3-pointer from Jeanette Meacham to tie the game at 30-30 with just over 17 minutes to play.

Mallory Hafer connected on one of her three 3-pointers with 15:42 to play to put Mansfield on top for the first time in the second half at 35-32. Meacham capped off an 8-0 run with two free throws as the Mountaineers pulled away 40-32 with just over 12 minutes to play.

Mansfield exploded offensively from that point building their lead to as much as 15 points down the stretch and hung on for a nine point margin of victory at 63-54.

The second half saw the Mounties shoot 46.2% from the field and 57.1% from the 3-point line while Edinboro dropped to 36.4% from the field and was 0-of-3 from the 3-point arc.

Courtney Brooks led the Mountaineers with 14 points while recording four steals and three assists. Mallory Hafer and Jeanette Meacham each added 11 points while Meacham also pulled down seven rebounds. Emily Akins added 10 points and six rebounds.

Jessica Uhrich fouled out of the game with six points while leading the team in rebounding with nine boards. She now needs 16 points to reach the 1,000 career point milestone.

Kelsey Conklin led Edinboro with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds while recording five steals as well. Kelly Calderone and Samantha Reimer each had 10 points for the Fighting Scots.

Mansfield shot 40.4% from the field to Edinboro's 39.6%. The Mountaineers held the rebounding advantage at 36-32.

With the win, Mansfield moves back to even on the season at 7-7 overall and remains atop the PSAC East with a 1-0 conference mark. Edinboro falls to 7-7 overall and remains 0-1 in the PSAC West.

The Mountaineers are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, January 14th, when they host Slippery Rock in the final PSAC Crossover game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Decker Gymnasium.
