Double-Doubles for Jess Uhrich Helps Mounties Stay Undefeated -- Earn 68-54 Win
over Clarion

MANSFIELD
– Jessica Uhrich led three Mountaineers in double figures with her
second consecutive double-double and a career best performance of 27 points and
16 rebounds as Mansfield defeated Clarion 68-54 in a PSAC crossover contest to
improve to 4-0 on the season.
"A very good win," said head coach Ruth
Hermansen. "Jess Uhrich really played well but even more impressive was the way
the team responded after Clarion rally late in the game."
The Mounties started things off with a
3-pointer from Mallory Hafer just six seconds into the game. The
Mountaineers and the Golden Eagles took turns scoring until Clarion took a 12-11
lead just just over 14:00 minutes to play in the first half.
Mansfield regained the lead 13-12 on a
layup by Jeanette Meacham with 12:47 to play and held the lead for
the remainder of the contest.
Mansfield entered the locker room at
halftime with a 39-31 lead after shooting 45.5% from the floor while Clarion
shot 37.9%.
The tides turned in the second half as
the Mountaineers went cold, missing their first nine consecutive shots and
shooting 26.3% from the field for the second half. With the cold shooting streak
for the Mounties, Clarion climbed from 16 points down to trail by only three
with 7:49 to play.
Jessica Uhrich sparked the Mounties
scoring again on two consecutive baskets as Mansfield pulled away down the
stretch to take the 14 point victory, 68-54.
Uhrich led all scorers with a
career-high 27 points finishing with 16 rebounds, her second double-double in as
many games. Also scoring in double figures for Mansfield was Mallory Hafer with
11 points and Emily Akins with 10 points. Jeanette Meacham
recorded nine rebounds for Mansfield.
Clarion was led by Jessica Albanese who
finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. Katrina Greer added nine points for
the Golden Eagles.
With the win, the Mountaineers move to
4-0 on the season marking the first time in school history that the women's
basketball team has opened consecutive seasons with four straight wins.
Clarion falls to 1-3 on the season.
Mansfield is back in action tomorrow,
Sunday, December 3rd, when they host IUP at Decker Gymnasium. Tipoff is
scheduled for 1:00 pm.
