FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: TAGLIAFERRI BREAKS SCHOOL SCORING RECORD IN 67-46 WIN AT HOUGHTON – SENIOR SCORES GAME HIGH 24 POINTS

HOUGHTON – Alison Tagliaferri scored a game high 24 points to shatter the school career points record to lead Mansfield University to a 67-46 win over Houghton College at the Nielsen Center Tuesday night.

“It’s nice that’s it finally over,” said Tagliaferri. “But points have never been the biggest thrill for me – winning always has. So that’s what makes it so special tonight. We won and were 3-0 to start the season.”

Tagliaferri scored 12 points in the first half helping the Mountaineers build a 31-21 lead at intermission. She would score her sixteenth point of the game on a jumper with 14:25 to play to surpass Paula Oleksy’s (1980-83) school record of 1,378. Tagliaferri now has 1,388 with more than 20 games remaining in her career.

Mansfield would expends its lead to as much as 62-34 on a free throw by Tiffany Taylor with 4:52 to play.

“We knew that Alison was something special when we recruited her,” said head coach Ruth Hermansen. “But she has overachieved even those lofty expectations.”

Tagliaferri was the only Mountaineer in double figures. Jessica Uhrich scored 8 points along with 10 rebounds with Tiffany Taylor and Athens freshman Mallory Hafer each adding eight of their own.

Lauren Foster scored 20 points to lead Houghton (2-2).

Mansfield will travel to Lycoming this Sunday afternoon.
