FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: EDINBORO RALLIES TO HAND MOUNTIES FIRST LOSS OF SEASON DESPITE JESSICA UHRICH’S CAREER HIGH 26 POINTS

EDINBORO – Edinboro rallied from an early 14 point deficit to outlast Mansfield 61-57 in a PSAC crossover contest at McComb Gymnasium Saturday afternoon despite a game and career high 26 point effort by junior Jessica Uhrich.

With the game tied 2-2 a minute into the game, the Mountaineers went on a 16-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 16-2 lead on a 3-pointer by Alicia Espigh at the 15:25 mark.

Edinboro would answer with a rally of their own going a 15-2 run to pull to within 18-17 a little over three minutes later. The two teams changed the lead five times in the final five minutes of the half before Edinboro would take a 28-26 lead into halftime.

The game would remain tight over the first 13 minutes of the second half with five ties and four lead changes before Edinboro would take a 53-45 advantage on a layup by Maria Divecchio.

Edinboro held a 60-53 lead with a minute left before Uhrich hit a 3-pointer and a free throw to cut the lead to 60-57 with five second remaining but could pull no closer. 

Uhrich went 11-of-19 from the floor, including 3-of-5 on 3-pointers, while pulling down nine rebounds with three steals and a block. Alison Tagliaferri also just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds with four assists.

Alicia Espigh added nine points as both team got a combined total of just six points off the bench.

Kelly Calderone led four Edinboro (4-0) players in double figures with 17 points while Agnes Michalow had a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

It was the first loss of the season for the Mountaineers (4-1) who travel to Slippery Rock Sunday.
