FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tagliaferri Scores 17 In Mounties Loss

Mansfield fell to the University of DC 71-53 at UDC Wednesday night, despite a 17 point performance by senior Alison Tagliaferri. Mansfield defeated UDC at home earlier this season during the season opening tournament at Decker Gymnasium.

The Mounties opened the game with a 4-0 run and would maintain the lead until 13:00 minutes to play in the first half when UDC tied the competition at 11-11.  UDC would build a lead with Mansfield hanging on until Tagliaferri tied the game at 22-22 with just under 6:00 to play in the first half. Those would be the last two points of the half for the Mounties however, as UDC closed the half with a 13-0 run to lead 35-22 at halftime.

Mansfield looked to bounce back at the beginning of the second half as Courtney Brooks started the scoring with a 3-point basket to bring UDC's lead to 10.

The Lady Firebirds took advantage of Mansfield's 32 turnovers in the contest to build their lead to as much as 29 points in the second half.

The Mounties would come back from the 29 point deficit but could not manage to bridge the entire gap falling 71-53.

Mansfield was led by Alison Tagliaferri who recorded 17 points (her 23rd straight double digit game) and seven rebounds while shooting 5-of-9 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. This marks the 56th time in the last 57 games she has scored in double figures.

Alicia Espigh recorded her third consecutive double digit performance scoring 13 points. Becky Ayers added 12 points for the Mounties.

UDC was led by four players in double figures including the game's leading scorer Deidra Bumbrey who recorded 20 points. Jaime Brown and Jennifer Jones each added 12 points for the Lady Firebirds while Narissa Eve chipped in 10.

The Mounties fall to 5-8 overall this season.

Mansfield will travel to Clarion Saturday January 14th for PSAC crossover action before opening the PSAC East season at home against Millersville on Wednesday January 18th at 5:30pm at Decker Gymnasium. Both contests will be broadcast on WNTE 89.5 fm and online at www.gomounties.com.
