FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO HOLD “MOUNTIE MADNESS” FRIDAY NIGHT – PUBLIC INVITED FOR FREE PREVIEW OF UPCOMING SEASON

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University women’s basketball team will hold a free public preview of the upcoming 2005-06 season when they host “Mounties Madness” this Friday evening starting at 7 p.m. in Decker Gymnasium.

The 2005-06 Mountaineer women’s team will be introduced before playing an intrasquad scrimmage. At halftime of the scrimmage, team members will compete in a 3-point shooting contest following a performance by the MU Dance Team.

At the conclusion of the scrimmage, four fans will vie in a free throw contest for a $50 gift certificate from the Campus Bookstore.

Free pizza and wings will also be provided.

The Mountaineers return eight players, including starters Alison Tagliaferri, Jess Uhrich and Tiffany Taylor, off last seasons’ 9-16 team.

They will be joined by a solid recruiting class that features former local standouts Emily and Katie Akins (Elmira,NY/Southside), Clarissa Correll (Mansfield/Mansfield), and Mallory Hafer (Sayre/Athens).

Ruth Hermansen is entering her seventh season at the helm of the Mountaineer as the programs’ winningest coach.

Mansfield will open the 2005-06 campaign when they host Columbia Union in the opening round of the Mansfield University Classic on November 19.
