FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: TAGLIAFERRI AND ESPIGH COMBINE FOR 37 POINTS IN WIN OVER LYCOMING – 4-0 WOMEN OFF TO BEST START SINCE 1990-91 SEASON

WILLIAMSPORT – Alison Tagliaferri and Alicia Espigh combined for 37 points to lead Mansfield to a 75-48 win over Lycoming College at Lamade Gymnasium Sunday afternoon.

The victory improves the Mountaineers to 4-0 on the season, the programs’ best start since opening the 1990-91 campaign with a 6-0 record.

Lycoming jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two minutes before the Mountaineers got on the scoreboard with a 3-pointer by Courtney Brooks at the 17:31 mark. That keyed a 11-0 run with Tagliaferri hitting a layup at 15:18 for an 11-5 lead.

It would remain a singe digit lead for most of the first half until the Mountaineers went on a 11-3 run over the final three minutes to take a 39-25 advantage into intermission.

Lycoming would pull to within 42-31 five minutes into the second half  before Mansfield went on a 24-7 run over the next seven minutes to take a 66-38 lead on a 3-pointer by Brittany Reed at the 7:59 mark.

Tagliaferri, who become the programs’ all-time scoring leader earlier in the week, posted the 18th double-double of her outstanding career with a game high 19 points and 13 rebounds. She also dished out three assists. Espigh connected on 6-of-8 from the field and 5-of-6 free throws for 18 points.

Courtney Brooks scored eight points while Emily Akins and Jessica Uhrich added seven. Mansfield got 23 points from its bench.

Amy Kile led Lycoming (1-3) with 18 points with Andrea Cooper adding 11.

Mansfield will travel to Edinboro this Saturday.
